ACARD Technology Corp. has produced AEC-6890, a two-channel RAID controller, for Serial ATA, the newest storage interface. AEC-6890 meets the 1.5Gbps standard in the first generation of Serial ATA. Besides its high transfer rate of 150MB/s, AEC-6890 supports a 1-meter-long hard drive cable, too. The narrow cable and connectors are good for heat sinking and air circulation inside the chassis of PC.
AEC-6890 supports RAID 0, 1 and JBOD modes. Through the 48-bit LBA technology, it can support a large capacity hard drive of 137GB and above. The Windows-based GUI RAID Utility provides an user-friendly RAID management tool. AEC-6890 also supports 32-bit PCI specifications, including the instruction set Bus Master, which can enhance the transfer capability. Moreover, the controller supports Scatter/Gather, which can increase the multitasking effect. Being a highly efficient interface in data transfer and backup, AEC-6890 is fit for personal, SOHO and corporate PC users.
